Overlooking the enchanting landscapes of the route we reach the Papanikoli cave, which is based on a true story, as you will be informed by the guide of our boat, acquiring its name from the legendary submarine “Papanikolis”, commanded by Miltiadis Iatridis where it was the refuge but also a base in its action during the Second World War. There you will enjoy your morning bath in the cave, distinguishing its stalactites and the bright beautiful sandy beach inside.
One of the most beautiful and largest underwater caves is located in Meganisi, located a stone’s throw from the island of Lefkada. The cave “Papanikolis” owes its name to the historic submarine of the same name with captain Iatridis, who is said to have used the cave as a refuge and stronghold during World War II.
